As we come to the tail end of COP27 where climate activists and world leaders discuss ambitious climate plans. We were reminded by 22 of our future leaders and custodians of the earth, that even small actions on the ground are massive wins.

On Saturday 12 November the Gugulethu environmental champions volunteered two hours of their time to tackle illegal dumping within their area. Armed with bags, cleaning tools, and gloves, these young individuals proved that there is no one that can’t be tasked with the protection of our earth. A special mention goes to the community leaders who prioritise the safety and mentorship of our young volunteers during these clean-ups.

The volunteers collected 80 bags of rubbish from the site, bringing the total amount of bags cleaned up by the PEC youth program to 1405.

As a token of our appreciation for their hard work and sacrificing of their time, a fun day is being planned for December.
