In honor of Mandela Day, our Gugulethu community champions gathered on Saturday 23 July to clean up a corner outside an Educare facility and opposite the soup kitchen we connect with, Gogo’s kitchen. Illegal dumping often takes place at this location and puts the health and safety of the children at risk. The location has been newly rejuvenated but needed to be cleaned up. Together with some willing adults the group of 28 residents set out to complete the task.
After 2 hours the site was clean and 28 bags of waste were ready to be taken away by solid waste, as arranged by PEC. We plan to further beautify this spot soon to prevent further dumping.
