Saturday 17 September marked World Cleanup Day and we at Pristine Earth Collective joined millions of volunteers, governments and organizations in 191 countries to tackle the global waste problem and build a new and sustainable world. Together with 50+ volunteers, we cleaned up on Milton Beach, Sea Point, in front of some of our newly installed litter nets

We were joined by our awesome sponsors Bootlegger Coffee Company and Seeff, as well as the teams from Regenize, our amazing recycling partner, and Octotel. Our community champions from Gugulethu also came through to do their part for the beach and ocean.

Although at first glance the beach looked pretty clean, since our Pristine Pathways Sea Point team has been working there, there were copious amounts of small plastic embedded in the kelp washup. In particular earbuds, lollipop sticks, straws, and bottle caps were everywhere! After a successful morning and despite the chilly wind we managed to collect about 13 bags of waste, of which more than half were sent to The Bag That Builds to turn the plastic into a building aggregate!
